Prepare to teach Networks with our new curriculum resources

When the new Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 was published in the middle of the year, we got our first taste of what the new curriculum will likely look like. Amongst the proposed changes was the inclusion of some new content, like Networks for Year 9 and 10 students.

Until now, there hasn’t been anything similar to Networks taught to students in the 7-10 mathematics curriculum, so this will be the first time many teachers are introducing this topic to students. 

To help navigate this new learning area, our team has put together a suite of resources for teachers. 

The first, a discussion paper, will help teachers by reviewing what the new Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 states the requirements are; demonstrating how those requirements can be met in a practical way; and discussing ways in which this can be taken beyond in cases where there is more time available to cover the topic.

Along with this paper, we’ve created modules, assessments and videos for both level 9 and 10 that you can use with your students.

Bex Thompson

With 11 years of experience teaching mathematics in the UK and Australia, Bex has a strong research-based pedagogical understanding . She has taught from Year 7 through to Year 12, including VCE Further Mathematics and VCE Mathematics Methods. This experience includes teaching Networks to Year 11 and 12 students. For the past 2 years, Bex has worked as a Learning Specialist at Maths Pathway, where she develops and evaluates rich learning content designed for the Australian Curriculum. Bex has extensive experience incorporating rich learning into her classroom and helping students develop deep mathematical thinking. She is also passionate about teaching for understanding and making learning engaging and accessible for all.
