Maths Pathway, for the second time, has been named a Best For The World honouree by B Lab in recognition of their work to support teachers and improve student growth in maths.
Ranking in the top 5 percent of all 4,000 B Corps for positive impact on customers, Maths Pathway earned this honour because of the outstanding outcomes their Learning and Teaching model has had on students and teachers across the country.
Created by teachers Justin Matthys and Richard Wilson, Maths Pathway has grown teacher impact so significantly that students using the model are more than doubling the amount of new mathematics they learn each year compared to a traditional classroom.
“We are extremely proud to be recognized in the top 5 percent of B Corps worldwide for our positive impact on our teachers and students” said co-founder, Justin Matthys.
“At Maths Pathway, our mission is to build a future in which every child who leaves school does so fully numerate and confident in their ability to think mathematically. In the eight years since the birth of Maths Pathway, this stance has helped us grow from two teachers helping their own students, to a thriving network of more than 3,286 teachers across Australia.”
In fact, students who switch from a traditional maths classroom to Maths Pathway are learning maths 250% faster and early evidence also shows that more students are proceeding to advanced maths in Years 11 and 12.
With more and more teachers partnering with Maths Pathway every year, the collective knowledge and practices from their community continues to grow and be refined. The continuous measurement of student data means that the model remains at the forefront of best-practice in mathematics education and students across the country are benefitting. This positive impact is what made Maths Pathway stand out.
Best For The World recognition is administered by B Lab, the global nonprofit that certifies and supports Certified B Corporations — which are companies dedicated to using business as a force for good. Today there are 4,000 Certified B Corporations across 77 countries and 153 industries, unified by one common goal: transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet.
B Corps meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. The B Corp Certification doesn’t just evaluate a product or service, it assesses the overall positive impact of the company that stands behind it—like Maths Pathway. Using the B Impact Assessment, B Lab evaluates how a company’s operations and business model impact its workers, community, environment, and customers. To achieve the B Corp Certification, a company must achieve a score of at least 80 points on the assessment.
