Today we explore the deceptively rich and engaging activity – “First to 22” in which students take turns at selecting cards and adding their value while trying to be the first to 22! Easy, right? Perhaps there’s more to this activity than meets the eye… In this special ‘teacher video’, Tom explores how extend the activity by considering patterns, algebra, modifying the rules, applying “what if?” mathematical thinking and of course, looking at strategy!
