Maths Pathway's first workshop targeting the early years, Developing Number Sense: Engagement and Inclusivity for the Whole Class will begin running in November 2019. Open to all primary teachers, this valuable day of learning will equip you with invaluable background about an important and effective, yet often abandoned approach in Maths - 'Rich Learning'.  Pedagogical approaches along with classroom routines and tasks work to shift student mindsets and perceptions around Mathematics and engage them in number concepts in a curious and autonomous way. Armed with a new set of knowledge and tools, you'll be able to implement new ideas and pedagogies the very next day.

About Developing Number Sense: Engagement and Inclusivity for the whole class. The program is underpinned by Maths Pathway’s belief in making evidence-based practices in teaching and learning accessible, while supporting teachers to make long-term and sustainable change.

'Developing Number Sense: Engagement and Inclusivity for the Whole Class' is an invaluable PD program that will:

  • shift teacher and student perceptions of Maths by equipping to you to bring student curiosity, ownership and challenge into everyday practice
  • equip you to create an inclusive and productive learning environment in which all students can learn, grow and develop as young mathematicians
  • begin to make rich learning for developing number sense part of your regular classroom practice
  • provide you with rich learning tasks for developing number sense which you'll experience and can use with the student you work with
  • enable you to identify what rich learning tasks are (and aren't) and how they fit into a balanced maths program
  • have you engaging with like-minded people

Program

Overview of the day
During this one-day intensive, we will look at the importance of an inclusive approach to maths learning, what rich learning is (and what it isn't), and how developing number sense through rich learning fits into a balanced maths program. Attendees will also engage in various learning experiences throughout they day, which can then be taken back to the classroom.

Who should attend?

Primary maths educators who want to learn new research and evidence based practices, and have the opportunity to reflect on and further develop their own practice. Individual teachers may register, however schools are strongly encouraged to send a group of teachers who can collaborate and support one another during and beyond the program.

Resources

You will be provided with all program materials and have access to the tools and resources to give you immediate impact with your students. You will also be emailed a certificate of learning for 7 Teacher Identified hours after the event.
